I had been looking forward to today so much that I could almost taste it in my mouth. For a change I had announced that I was not going to be available on this day. I would be busy. I was not going to work.
We had planned on going for a hike, preferably somewhere we have not been. Somewhere where we could take Beau with us. But it would have to be only for the day. Maybe a little into the evening, if we were having fun.
And so, my day started with some Lipstick Red Roses handed to me the night before by my hubby. Sealed with a kiss, as they say!
This morning, we loaded the car with hiking boots, water, backpacks, Beau’s treats, bags, bowl, blanket, and leash. Then, we were off bright and early, heading south on Hwy 280. Then on to Hwy 101 and then Hwy 1 until we hit the exit to Carmel Valley.
We thought we’d get to know the valley, now that we have decided to keep a place not too far away for respite from the humdrum of work life. We drove up to Garland Ranch Regional Park. It was sunny and not too warm. There was a pleasant breeze. The hike was easy to moderate. There was the series of steep ascents on the Waterfall Trail. Then we went on to the Mesa Trail and followed the signs until we came down the mountain and looped back to the visitor center.
It was great! It was grand! Then we spent the afternoon having a lazy late lunch at Quail Lodge.
What a day! They say that we should celebrate our special day such that every day for the next 365 days would be an affirmation of that day. Well, I’m all for that!
