There are many reasons why we love the sea. We love to stare out into its wide expanse and lose ourselves in the undulating waves as they ebb and flow on the sandy shore. Mostly, it calms. It soothes. We are able to take pause and regroup. We shed our day-to-day struggles that have kept us too preoccupied. The sea does not take away pain and suffering. Being around it helps stave off the sting so we can take stock of our lives and put things into a better perspective.
When the sea is turbulent, we are reminded of our vulnerability. We are as miniscule as the specks of sand that are randomly carried back and forth compared to the powerful waves. It is humbling. It forces our feet to touch the earth again and allows us to remember that we are not infallible.

When the sea glistens in the daylight, we run to its waves and see the purity of its body when we can see our feet surrounded by curious schools of fish passing by. We delight in the beauty of the world around us. We affirm that life is good. It is good to be here and to be with one another.

This post was inspired by the Weekly Photo Challenge by Sara Rosso last Friday: Sea
Sea. What kind of emotions does the sea or ocean make you feel? Do you remember the first time you went in the water? Had a wave crash on you? Felt the sand burn your feet? Do you feel more peaceful around water? Do you hate the beach? What’s the most interesting thing about the sea for you?
La Mer
Somewhere beyond the sea,
Somewhere waiting for me,
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing.
Somewhere beyond the sea
She’s there watching for me.
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to her arms I’d go sailing
It’s far beyond the star,
It’s near beyond the moon.
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We’ll meet beyond the shore
We’ll kiss just as before
And happy we’ll be beyond the sea
And never again I’ll go sailing
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We’ll meet, I know, we’ll meet beyond the shore
We’ll kiss just as before
And happy we will be beyond the sea
And never again I’ll go sailing

Yes, isn’t it wonderful? The song reminds me a lot of my childhood, when things were much simpler.

I had never read your blog until today, or maybe I have never read it as intensely as I did today. I knew by your words that you were a romantic at heart and a poet before I even saw your poem. You have so much talent. Continue to share with the world your gift. hugs

You must be a young-un not to recognize this famous song. I grew up with it. And yes, I’m dating myself. But even Robbie Williams has his own version of this song…
Thanks for the compliment, though. Hugs to you! And your family.

Hey, thanks for the link! Your rendition reminds me of sitting outside some cafe listening to the raspy baritone of some blues singer.
