May 14th was Nanay’s birthday. Tomorrow, we will remember her briefly as we start our day. She will have been 88 years old. Tonight, I decided to rummage through old photographs and I thought that I’d show a few from yesteryears, as we all would like to remember her: Beautiful, poised, always dressed impeccably and stylishly, a capable entrepreneurial and creative dynamo.

Over the years, we saw her as mother, as grandma, as Tatay’s wife, as fashion designer. She visited her children in New York, New Jersey, Toronto, and then over the recent years, in San Francisco.

She would spend time with her grandchildren, telling them stories, teaching them the virtues of good posture and good manners. We always heard her gushing over how beautiful her grandchildren are.

At many gatherings, she was always the grand dowager, ever gracious and elegant, with a ready smile for everyone.

But we will always remember her for this photo, chosen by her children, to remember her by.

A felt a tinge of homesickness when I read your post. You are blessed to have a loving and wonderful “nanny.” I felt the immense love you have for her as well as the rest of your family. Just beautiful! Happy Birthday to your “nanny”. I wish her all the love, joy,good health and peace.

She was my mother-in-law, IT. Not my nanny! She was much loved in life and at peace in death.
